It was my absolute pleasure to chat with Kris Abdelmessih about markets and life.
Kris was an options market maker who started out in the trading pits of New York and later flipped the script to set up the commodity options business for hedge fund Parallax Advisory.
Today, Kris writes the Moontower newsletter on Substack – one of the most consistently unique and insightful newsletters you’ll find – and is the brains behind moontower.ai, a “beautifully opinionated” options analytics platform for traders.
The wonderful thing about moontower.ai is that it is a direct reflection of Kris’ approach to trading options, making it extremely practical. If you’re an options trader, it will almost certainly improve your P&L.
It displays options data in relative terms, which allows traders to zero in on parts of the market that have diverged from the aggregate. This is difficult to do if you’re setting it up yourself, and it is the basis of a whole lot of professional trading. The platform quite literally brings professional options trading tools to retail.
Kris shared many insights during our conversation:
- Some differences between professional and retail trading
- How a retail trading operation can be set up to align with your life
- Good options trades and where to find them
- How important is modelling time decay?
- How important is backtesting for options strategies?
- And much more…
